Two crowds hear the same miracle and come to opposite conclusions: one group is amazed and wants to know more, the other group mocks and writes it off. That tension runs straight through our modern lives too. When something challenges our assumptions about God, do we lean in with humility, or do we protect our pride with sarcasm and distance?

We open Acts chapter 2 at Pentecost, where the Holy Spirit fills the disciples and Peter stands to explain what is happening. From Matthew 18, we talk about Jesus’ call to become like a little child, not childish, but humble, teachable, and willing to trust. Then we contrast that posture with the scoffer described in 2 Peter 3, the voice that says nothing ever changes and the promise of Christ’s return cannot be true. Scripture answers with history, including Noah, and with a clear warning that judgment is real even when it feels delayed.

From there we follow Peter’s sermon as he connects Joel’s prophecy to the church age, the age of grace, gospel proclamation, and Spirit-empowered witness for all kinds of people. We also slow down on a crucial line: “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Calling is not a magic phrase; it means knowing who Jesus is, trusting what His name represents, and surrendering to the Savior who was crucified for our sin and raised in victory, just as David foretold.

If this teaching helps you, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find verse-by-verse Bible teaching. What part challenged you most: the call to humility or the warning to stop scoffing?
